Jewellery Care Guide

The short answer

Caring for your Amarii jewellery starts with a few simple habits. Remove your jewellery before swimming, exercise and manual work, clean it gently and check the setting regularly. These steps help protect the metal, diamond and gemstones while allowing your piece to be worn and enjoyed for years.

When should you remove your Amarii jewellery?

Remove your jewellery before activities that can expose it to impact, chemicals, pressure or repeated contact.

  1. Remove it before swimming in pools, spas or the ocean.
  2. Remove it before showering, exercising, gardening or manual work.
  3. Remove it before using household cleaning products, chemicals or abrasive products.

Strong precious metals and diamonds can still be affected by significant impact, pressure or repeated contact with hard surfaces. These everyday habits lead to another important part of care: what happens while you sleep.

Should you remove your ring before sleeping?

We recommend removing your ring before sleeping, particularly when the design has a fine band, delicate setting or intricate detailing.

Pressure applied to a ring while sleeping can gradually stress or distort delicate components. This can increase the risk of damage to the setting.

Removing the ring before bed gives you a simple daily opportunity to store it safely and check its condition.

How should you protect your diamond?

Diamonds are exceptionally hard, but hardness does not make them impossible to damage.

A significant impact can chip or fracture a diamond, particularly at points where the stone is more vulnerable.

Protect your diamond by avoiding deliberate impacts, removing your ring before strenuous activities and avoiding tools or machinery while wearing it. Do not use abrasive materials to clean it.

A loose diamond requires immediate attention, which makes checking the setting equally important.

How should you check your ring setting?

The setting holds your diamond or gemstones securely in place, so it should be checked regularly.

Look for loose or moving stones, bent or damaged claws, gaps around the setting, a bent band, unusual movement in the centre stone or a change in how the ring feels.

Stop wearing the jewellery and contact Amarii if something does not feel right. The next step is gentle cleaning.

How should you clean Amarii jewellery at home?

Regular gentle cleaning can help your jewellery maintain its appearance.

  1. Fill a small bowl with warm water.
  2. Add a small amount of mild dish soap.
  3. Place the jewellery in the solution for several minutes.
  4. Gently clean it with a very soft bristled brush.
  5. Pay particular attention to the underside of the setting.
  6. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
  7. Dry gently with a soft lint free cloth.

Keep the drain closed or use a bowl rather than cleaning jewellery directly over an open sink. Gentle cleaning is suitable for many pieces, but some materials require more specific care.

What should you avoid when cleaning jewellery?

Avoid products and methods that can damage precious metals, settings or gemstones.

Avoid bleach, chlorine, harsh household cleaners, abrasive cleaning products, powdered cleaners, rough brushes and scouring materials.

Do not use chemicals that are not specifically designed for jewellery.

Avoid ultrasonic cleaning unless you have confirmed that the specific piece and gemstones are suitable. Some settings, gemstones and delicate designs require specialist care.

How should you care for gold jewellery?

Gold is a precious metal, but it can still develop scratches and surface marks through everyday wear.

Remove gold jewellery during physical activities, avoid contact with hard surfaces, store pieces separately and avoid wearing pieces together where they may rub.

These marks are part of normal wear. The care routine should focus on protecting the structure and finish of the piece.

Why does white gold change appearance over time?

White gold may have a rhodium finish that gives the metal its bright reflective appearance.

With regular wear, the rhodium surface can gradually wear down and reveal more of the underlying white gold tone.

This is normal wear rather than a manufacturing defect. White gold can generally be professionally cleaned and rhodium plated again when required.

How should you care for platinum?

Platinum is naturally white and does not require rhodium plating.

Like other precious metals, platinum can develop surface marks through everyday wear. Over time, the surface can develop a distinctive patina.

Professional polishing can restore a brighter surface finish when preferred. The metal therefore requires a different care approach from white gold.

How should you store your Amarii jewellery?

Store your jewellery somewhere dry, clean and secure, away from direct sunlight and excessive heat.

Where possible, keep individual pieces separate to reduce scratching and tangling. Keep an engagement ring separate from other jewellery, particularly pieces containing diamonds or harder gemstones.

Keep your Amarii jewellery box and diamond grading report in a safe place. Good storage becomes especially important when travelling.

How should you travel with your jewellery?

Keep jewellery in its protective case and keep valuable pieces with you rather than in checked luggage.

Avoid leaving jewellery unattended in hotel rooms. Use a hotel safe where appropriate and keep jewellery away from toiletries and cosmetics.

For valuable jewellery, maintaining appropriate jewellery insurance while travelling is strongly recommended. Everyday care matters just as much when you are away from home.

How should you protect jewellery from perfume and skincare?

Apply beauty products before putting on your jewellery.

Perfume, hairspray, moisturiser, sunscreen and other cosmetics can leave residue on jewellery and contribute to dulling or build up over time.

Allow skincare, perfume and cosmetics to dry before putting on your jewellery. This simple order of use reduces unnecessary residue on the metal and stones.

Can you swim while wearing your jewellery?

No. We recommend removing your jewellery before swimming in pools or the ocean.

Chlorine and other chemicals can affect precious metals and may weaken or damage certain jewellery components over time.

Salt water can increase exposure to wear and can increase the risk of losing a ring if your fingers become colder and the ring becomes loose.

How should you care for an engagement ring every day?

A simple daily routine can reduce unnecessary wear.

  1. Put your jewellery on after skincare, perfume and cosmetics.
  2. Be mindful of impact, hard surfaces and activities that place pressure on the ring.
  3. Remove the ring before bed and store it safely.
  4. Check regularly that the centre stone and smaller stones feel secure.
  5. Stop wearing the ring and contact Amarii when something changes.

The most important warning sign is a stone or setting that no longer feels secure.

What should you do if your stone feels loose?

Stop wearing the jewellery immediately if you notice movement in the centre diamond, a clicking or rattling sound, a loose claw, a bent prong, a gap around the stone or another change in the setting.

Place the piece somewhere safe and contact Amarii.

Do not attempt to tighten, repair or adjust the setting yourself. Continued wear can increase the risk of damage or stone loss.

When should your jewellery receive professional care?

Professional assessment can be valuable over the life of a piece, particularly for engagement rings and jewellery worn every day.

A qualified jeweller can assess setting security, claw condition, stone movement, metal wear, structural integrity and surface condition.

Professional cleaning and polishing may restore the appearance of well worn jewellery. Any professional servicing or restoration is separate from the Amarii Lifetime Warranty unless it relates to a covered manufacturing defect.

When should you contact Amarii?

Contact Amarii when your diamond or gemstone feels loose, a claw appears damaged, your ring becomes bent or distorted, a stone is chipped or damaged, a component becomes detached or you believe there may be a manufacturing defect.

Please do not arrange repairs, resizing or alterations with another jeweller before contacting Amarii when you believe the issue may be covered by the Amarii Lifetime Warranty.

Unauthorised alterations or repairs may affect coverage under the voluntary warranty.

What does the Amarii Lifetime Warranty cover?

The Amarii Lifetime Warranty provides protection against genuine manufacturing defects, subject to the terms of the warranty.

The Lifetime Warranty is not jewellery insurance and does not cover every type of damage, loss or wear.

If a diamond is lost or damaged, Amarii will assess the circumstances and cause. An issue resulting from a manufacturing defect in the setting or workmanship may be covered.

Refer to the Amarii Lifetime Warranty for the complete terms.
